Use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) during project operation and maintenance (O&M) phase allowing accurate, real-time asset registers and maintenance logs, verification of works, parts, and labour against physical assets and reducing risks for corruption.
Initiative Summary
BIM creates an auditable record of decisions, interventions, and expenditures. During O&M, it can create quality control checklists and automated tools that can make it more difficult to manipulate maintenance records, inflate repair costs, falsify asset conditions, or approve unnecessary works.
Practice Lesson
The initiative demonstrates the value of BIM beyond design and construction phases. By improving visibility over operation and maintenance activities, quality control automation tools can help detect irregularities earlier and limit opportunities for collusion, fraudulent billing, or diversion of funds.
